No, unfortunately, not preparations for the Final, but final preparations for the trip that has evolved out of the Champions League exit. As I had the single flight already booked for that May evening in Madrid, I figured that I may as well make the best of it.
So, with that in mind I got to thinking about how to best spend the week. And from this came a cunning plan.
Use the early morning flight from London Stansted to Madrid on the day of the final, Saturday 22nd May and revel in the pre match build up with the Inter fans. Maybe partake in a Rioja or two, or Peroni in keeping with an Italian theme, and a plate of tapas. In the evening, try and get a ticket to be in the Bernabeau for the final before sampling the legendary Madrid hospitality, drinking into the wee small hours.
Day 2 is a train to Seville, a city that I have been wanting to visit for quite some time. A couple of days meandering around the orange tree lined streets before heading off by train again to Marbella, via a short bus journey from Malaga.
Whilst trying not to spend a small fortune in Marbella I also intend to make the most of being in such a beautiful, classy joint. Champagne tastes on a lemonade budget. After 2 nights in Marbella, and after no doubt exhausting my meagre travel budget, I will then head home with a flight from Malaga to Leeds.
So I may not be cheering the Reds onto Champions League glory on that balmy evening in Madrid, but I will be enjoying the sun with a few cervezas. If you want to share the experience with me, keep watching the blog :-)
